Dr. Allison Coltisor is the state's only post-doctoral audiologist and the only provider in New Mexico with a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Vestibular Sciences and Disorders. She offers cochlear implant care, balance and vestibular evaluation, CAPD testing, TBI audiology, and mobile home visits for patients who can't travel.

We offer a full range of hearing services to meet the needs of every patient. Specialty hearing care - cochlear implants, TBI, balance and auditory processing - in our clinic or in your home or office. Sliding scale fees available.

At Hear New Mexico, hearing aids can be fitted, dispensed, and programmed using real-ear measures in-office in a clinical setting, which is more detailed and completely different than just visiting a retail hearing aid store. We fit and dispense a full range of hearing aids, including bone-anchored devices, with affordable options and manufacturer partnerships to help all patients access the care they need regardless of budget.

We offer custom hearing protection, hearing assistive listening devices, and workplace-compliant hearing solutions tailored to the specific needs of each patient, including those working in noise-sensitive or regulated environments. Many of our devices meet the requirements of the Department of Defense, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Sandia National Laboratory.

At Hear New Mexico we provide cochlear implant initial activations (also called initial stimulations), re-mapping and programming, and can help field repairs. We work with Advanced Bionics, Cochlear, and Med-El devices and can see patients of all ages for these services.

What brands of hearing aids do you carry?

We work with all major manufacturers, including Oticon, Widex, Signia, Starkey, ReSound, Phonak, and Unitron. That means your recommendation is based on your hearing profile, your lifestyle, and your work environment. Patients from Los Alamos to Taos leave with a device chosen for their specific situation.

Do you see kids, or just adults?

We see children as well as adults, starting at age 4 for most evaluations, though we can go as low as 3 years old. Age cutoffs can vary depending on the specific test, so it's worth a quick call to the office if you have a younger child or an unusual situation. We see families across Northern New Mexico, from White Rock to the Espanola Valley, who've come to Hear New Mexico rather than making the trip to Albuquerque for a first pediatric hearing evaluation.

Will Medicare pay for my hearing aids?

Standard Medicare does not cover hearing aids. Any hearing aid benefit will come from a Medicare Advantage plan, a Medicare supplement plan, or an employer retirement plan. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, traditional Medicare Parts A and B cover diagnostic hearing evaluations when ordered by a physician, but not the devices themselves (https://www.medicare.gov/coverage/hearing-aids). Our office can help you understand what your specific plan includes before your appointment.

Do you work with cochlear implants?

Yes. Hear New Mexico works with all three cochlear implant manufacturers: Cochlear, Med-El, and Advanced Bionics. That includes consultations, activations, and ongoing programming. Because cochlear implant care is a long-term relationship, patients from Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and across Northern New Mexico choose to work with a single specialist rather than cycling through whoever is available at a large clinic system.

I can't easily get to an office. Can someone come to me?

Yes. Hear New Mexico offers mobile audiology visits for patients who are homebound, post-surgical, or otherwise unable to travel. The same services available in the Los Alamos office, including hearing evaluations, hearing aid programming, cochlear implant mapping, and BPPV treatment, can be provided in your home. Mobile visits currently serve patients across Northern New Mexico and the Albuquerque area.
