Insurance & Payment
Most audiology practices make you figure out insurance on your own. At Hear New Mexico, navigating your coverage is part of the visit. Dr. Coltisor will review your plan with you, help you understand what's covered, and connect you with options if your current plan falls short.
Plans and programs we work with
UnitedHealthcare Hearing
We're credentialed with UnitedHealthcare Hearing, a third-party hearing benefit administrator, and are an in-network provider for United Healthcare Dual Complete (Medicaid/Medicare Advantage) plans. If your health plan, including certain Medicaid and Turquoise Care plans, routes hearing benefits through UHC Hearing, your care is covered through that benefit. You do not need a separate Medicaid referral or credential. Not sure if your plan qualifies? We can help you check before your appointment.
You have two easy options:
- THE QUICKEST OPTION: Simply contact our office and we'll submit the referral for you through the UHC portal - most patients choose this option because it's faster and requires no extra phone calls on your part, or
- THE 'DO IT YOURSELF' OPTION: Call United Healthcare Hearing directly at 1-855-523-9337 to request a referral to Hear New Mexico.
Amplifon Hearing Benefits
We participate in the Amplifon hearing benefit network. Many employer and Medicare Advantage plans include an Amplifon hearing benefit. If yours does, it applies here.
Turquoise Care (NM Medicaid)
New Mexico's Turquoise Care program launched in July 2024 and includes four managed care organizations. Hearing benefits vary by plan. If your MCO routes hearing services through UnitedHealthcare Hearing, you can be seen here at no additional cost for covered services. We do not bill Medicaid directly, but we will not leave you to figure this out alone.
Sliding-scale fees
For patients who don't qualify for Medicaid or whose plan doesn't include a hearing benefit, we offer sliding-scale fees based on your financial situation. No one is turned away for inability to pay.
Self-pay and all major credit cards
We accept cash and all major credit cards for patients paying out of pocket.

FAQs: Insurance & Payment
Do you accept Medicaid?
We do not bill Medicaid directly. However, if your Turquoise Care or Medicaid plan routes hearing benefits through UnitedHealthcare Hearing, you can receive covered services here without any separate Medicaid credential. UHC Hearing acts as the benefit administrator, so your coverage travels through them, not through a direct Medicaid claim. We're happy to help you confirm whether your specific plan qualifies before you come in.
What is UnitedHealthcare Hearing, and is it the same as UnitedHealthcare insurance?
They're related but not the same. UnitedHealthcare Hearing is a separate benefit administrator that manages hearing care benefits on behalf of many different health plans, including some Medicaid and Turquoise Care plans, Medicare Advantage plans, and employer plans. Holding a UHC Hearing credential means we can serve patients across all of those plans, even if the underlying insurance is Medicaid or a plan from a different carrier.
What if my plan doesn't cover hearing care at all?
That happens more often than it should. Dr. Coltisor has helped many patients identify a Turquoise Care plan with a hearing benefit, connect with an insurance broker to switch plans during open enrollment, or access foundation and grant funding for services their plan won't cover. If none of those paths work for your situation, sliding-scale fees are available.
What does the sliding scale actually cover?
Sliding-scale pricing is based on your financial situation and is available for audiology services. The specifics depend on your individual circumstances. Dr. Coltisor can walk you through what to expect during your first call or appointment.
Do you accept Medicare or Medicare Advantage?
Many Medicare Advantage plans include a hearing benefit through UnitedHealthcare Hearing or Amplifon. If yours does, it applies here. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover routine hearing exams or hearing aids, but we can help you understand your options regardless of which Medicare plan you have.
